Congratulations to Gwen Le Bras regarding their new position and upcoming defence!

Message from Gwen below:

After three years of doctoral research at Géosciences Environnement Toulouse (GET), I am pleased to invite you to my PhD defence, which will take place on Monday, November 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM (French time, CET), in Toulouse, France.

My dissertation is entitled: “New isotopic tracers (Zn, CSIA-AA) of human remains: beyond diet, physiological, environmental and cultural factors of variation”

My research explores the potential of zinc and amino acid nitrogen isotopes to investigate past human diets and the physiological, environmental, and cultural factors influencing isotopic signatures in archaeological remains. A substantial part of this work focuses on BAP samples. I would therefore be particularly happy to share the outcomes of this research with the BAP community, whose work and collaborations have contributed significantly to my doctoral research.

My PhD committee will consist of:

  • Supervisors: Klervia Jaouen (CNRS, GET) and David Point (IRD, GET)
  • Examiner: Vincent Balter (CNRS)
  • Reviewers: Christophe Snoeck (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), Élise Dufour (Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle), and Anne-France Maurer (Universidade de Évora)
  • Invited members: Rozenn Colleter (co-advisor, Inrap Grand Ouest) and Andrzej Weber (University of Alberta)

The defence will be delivered in French, but all presentation slides will be in English, so that non-French-speaking colleagues can follow the main results and discussion. The defence will be accessible online via the following link: https://bbb.univ-rennes.fr/rooms/8sd-gs2-2zh-eyf/join

Since September, I have also joined Géosciences Rennes at the University of Rennes as an Attaché·e temporaire d’enseignement et de recherche (ATER, temporary teaching and research fellow), following the completion of my doctoral contract in Toulouse.

I hope many of you will be able to join and I look forward to sharing the results of these past three years with you!

BAP wishes you all the best, Gwen!
