Aleksandra Krikunova recently received her Master’s Degree from Saint Petersburg State University and Hamburg University, as a member of the Russian-German Master Program for Polar and Marine Sciences (POMOR). Her Master’s Thesis “Postglacial vegetation and climate history of the Northern Lake Onega Region inferred from palynological record of razlomnoe peatbog” was highly regarded by the Russian-German Scientific Committee and rated with the highest grade (1.0 “Excellent”). Aleksandra will start her BAP-related PhD project in January 2022 at the Free University of Berlin (FUB) supervised by Prof. Dr. Pavel Tarasov (FUB) and Dr. Larisa Savelieva (SPBU). During her research stay in Berlin, she will conduct the pollen analysis of the Lateglacial and Holocene sediment cores from two key regions of the Project: Lake Onega Region in Northwest Russia and Lake Baikal Region of Southern Siberia. Using these data, she will perform pollen-based environmental reconstructions and comparative analyses of Late Quaternary vegetation and climate dynamics and will assess the palaeoenvironmental impacts on the hunter-fisher-gatherer populations, their cultural tradition, subsistence and adaptation.
Update: Dr. Aleksandra Krikunova successfully defended her PhD dissertation on December 10th! Awesome news from Aleksandra’s supervisor, Dr. Pavel Tarasov: “Aleksandra’s PhD defence was a great success. For the written thesis, oral presentation and subsequent discussion, all members of the committee gave her “magna cum laude”, which is a grade for PhDs “with great distinction”.
