New BAP lab in Irkutsk!

“Spirtovka” is no longer holding our BAP collections! The new and much improved lab in Irkutsk is a welcome addition for all involved! It will likely be called “Stolovaia”, because the space was used before as a student cafeteria. Here is our long-time BAP collaborator, Mr. Vladimir I. Bazaliiskii, at Stolovaia.

Dr. Andrzej Weber presents talk in Usol’e-Sibirskoye, Russia!

Dr. Andrzej Weber recently presented a talk in the city of Usol’e-Sibirskoye near Irkutsk, Russia. The talk was entitled “30 years of collaborative Russian–Canadian archaeological research on Lake Baikal”. The talk went well and Dr. Weber was featured in a television interview! Franziska Kobe presents Guest Online Lecture for Palynology Short Talks!

Franziska Kobe, BAP PhD Student at Freie Universitaet Berlin, recently presented a guest lecture for Palynology Short Talks – Session 11: Vegetation History. This talk was part of the student research showcase and infographic and lightning talk sessions, sponsored by AASP-TPS and BES Palaeoecology Group. The presentation was on May 18th and entitled "Investigating the possibility of boreal tree taxa presence in the CIS Baikal (Eastern Siberia) during the LGM using pollen records". Congratulations to Dr. Mayke Wagner, our BAP Partner and the Scientific Director of Eurasia Department of the German Archaeological Institute on the premiere of the 45-minute documentary "The Invention of the Trousers"! The film is a part of the Silk Road Fashion International Project, and is now available for free viewing on YouTube in three languages, English, German and Russian. Baikal Archaeology Project Summer 2020 Field School in Siberia!

The Baikal Archaeology Project is pleased to announce we are currently accepting applications for our 2020 field school, offered through the Department of Anthropology at Grant MacEwan University! Franziska Kobe gives public talk at the Geological Club and Museum-Park Rüdersdorf

Franziska Kobe, BAP PhD student from Freie Universität Berlin, presented a 30-minute talk at the Scientific Colloquium organized by the Geological Club and Museum-Park Rüdersdorf near Berlin on 18 October 2019. Successful Workshop in Riga, Latvia!

Members of the Baikal Archaeology Project & guests have wrapped up another successful workshop - this time in Riga, Latvia (September 26-28, 2019). Presentations brought the entire team up to date on recent research & summer fieldwork, while social outings & a fieldtrip to the Zvejnieki archaeological site made sure the trip wasn't all work.
